On your first day in Milwaukee you will want to slip on some comfortable shoes because you will be walking around. This day includes seeing some of Milwaukee’s top sights-to-see and will wrap up with a night at the theater.

• Morning: To begin your trip to Milwaukee the best place to start is at the River Walk taking a leisurely stroll. You can take in the morning with a slow walk down this redeveloped, scenic waterfront path and grab a cup of coffee or breakfast at one of the sidewalk cafes. The River Walk is lined with cafes, art, and numerous historical buildings as it connects the Historic Third Ward of Milwaukee to Downtown. During months of warmer weather gondola rides are even available.

• Afternoon: Next, make your way down to the Historic Third Ward. This turn of the century area has a lot to offer its visitors, giving you a peek into the history of Milwaukee and it might even make you feel creative with its artistic atmosphere. The Historic Third Ward or HTW has Irish roots as it was a wholesale and manufacturing neighborhood that was later replaced by an Italian community. The ward gives you much to do in the afternoon with over 400 businesses including museums, antique shops, exclusive specialty stores, and art galleries. Walking tours of the neighborhood allow you to take in both the past and present. If you get hungry, don’t worry, there are many restaurants to choose from. Order the flatbread pizza at Coquette Café, a burger or calamari at Palms Bistro, or a sandwich and beer at The Wicked Hop. However, if you want to keep walking, the Historic Third Ward is only 2 blocks from downtown.

• Evening: Tonight grab seats for the show playing at the Riverside Theater in downtown Milwaukee. The Riverside Theater houses concerts and Broadway plays. Another option that offers a great theater experience for the whole family is First Children’s Theater.
