Milwaukee is known as “The City of Festivals”. Throughout the year it is rich with different cultural festivals; Irish fest, Festa Italiana, Mexican Fiesta, and Oktoberfest just to name a few.
• Summerfest: The most famous of these festivals is Summerfest, the world’s largest music festival. Summerfest is 11-days of music including well known artists of all genres on 13 stages. The festival is located on 75 acres in Milwaukee on the lakefront and keeps you grooving to the music that is playing all day and all night. It can be considered a vacation all by itself as there is more to do than just listen to the music. Other activities you may find yourself enjoying include carnival rides, games, comedy shows, shopping, taste testing Milwaukee’s foods, and fireworks. Summerfest can be considered a summer destination all on its own.
• German Fest: The largest German festival in North America is also found in Milwaukee. German Fest, which began in 1981, has a lot to entertain you with, such as a parade, yodeling contests, a brass band, Glockenspiel performances, oompah bands, fireworks, and more. German cuisine is not in short supply here so take advantage of the offered bratwurst, Wiener schnitzel and microbrews. There is also Williamsburg Marktplatz to shop for German inspired gifts and you can watch craftsmen at work. Children will enjoy the Hummel contest where judges search for look-alikes of these figurines amongst the children.
• Irish Fest: The well-known Irish Fest is a fun celebration for kids of all ages. With parades, magicians, storytellers, music, contests, jugglers, exhibits, and of course food, the whole family is guaranteed a great time. If you don’t know much about Irish culture a one week school is offered right before Irish Fest to teach you about the culture, history, music, and more.
