Before interviewing photographers, do your homework. Not only should you have several ideas of the types of photos you would like to have, but find out all pertinent information the photographer will need. Check with your wedding coordinator or someone at the wedding and reception location to request any restrictions on photography and video.
The following are questions you should ask when interviewing prospective photographers:
• How many weddings have they shot?
• Do they have a standard shoot list?
• If having a video, will it be on DVD or what form?
• The type of equipment that will be used.
• Who will be actually photographing the wedding? Often, a photographer is hired and then someone else shows up to shoot the wedding. If there is an assistant, will there be an extra charge for the help?
• Can I see complete wedding photos that you have done? Be sure the photographer you will be using is the one who actually photographed the pictures you are seeing.
• Have you photographed other weddings at the same location that I am using?
• Is there an extra fee for black and white photos?
• How much time will you spend at my wedding? Will you take photos before the ceremony and is there an extra charge for this service?
• Will I be able to customize a package to fit my budget?
• How long are the photos kept on file? You may not be able to buy all that you want right away so find out if they will be available if you decide you want more at a later date.
