It is very important to use good etiquette when addressing your Wedding Invitations. The following are some guidelines that you should keep in mind:

  • Your envelopes should be handwritten unless you have a font that duplicates handwriting. Either way, the invitations need to look handwritten. If you would prefer, you can even hire a calligrapher to do them for you.

  • Use no abbreviations other then Mr., Mrs., Dr., or Jr.

  • Never use initials on invitations. For example, instead of “K.”, write out “Kelly.”

  • Write out words such as North, South, East, West, Street, Road, Avenue, Boulevard, and Lane.

  • Spell out states in full. For example, instead of “OK” write out “Oklahoma.”

  • Write out figures used in zip codes and housed numbers. For example, write “Thirteenth Street,” not “13th Street.”

  • Avoid using the words “and family.” Any child over the age of eighteen should receive a separate invitation.

  • Mail invitation four to six weeks before the wedding.
