» What is Wedding Etiquette for the responsibilities of the Maid of Honor?
If you have been chosen to be the Maid of Honor, then you are of great significance to the Bride. Remember that this position is an honor, and that your way of thanking the Bride is helping her throughout the entire wedding process. The following is a list of your responsibilities:
- Attend all the pre-nuptial parties. If there are gifts involved, help the Bride keep track of who gave them so she can write thank-you notes at a later date.
- Help the Bride address all announcements and invitations.
- If possible, hold an engagement party for the Bride and Groom to celebrate the big announcement.
- Be the leader of the other bridesmaids. Help the Bride make sure that they are at all fittings and events. Let them know what responsibilities they have as the bridesmaids.
- On the day of the wedding, arrive at the home of the Bride at least two hours before the ceremony to help her get ready.
- During the ceremony, assist the Bride with her train as well as hold her bouquet during the ring ceremony. Give it back to her just before the recessional.
- Be a witness and sign the marriage certificate after the ceremony.
- If the Bride wishes, stand in the receiving line. Your proper place is to stand at the Groom’s left side with the rest of the bridesmaids at your left.
- If the Bride is changing before departing from the ceremony, help her get ready. Once she has left, it is your responsibility to ensure that her gown gets home safely.
