For a lot of men, nothing is more terrifying then asking a woman for her hand in marriage. There are so many questions that run through your head when you’re about to propose: When should I ask? What will she say? Will she cry? All of these are scary questions, but perhaps the one that is mostly on every man’s mind is…Will she like the ring?

There are several different routes you can take in order to feel more confident about this question. One thing you can do is take your girlfriend with you to the jewelry store to pick out a ring prior to your proposal. This has become a very common and acceptable way to ensure that she will like your ring purchase. If you want to add a slight element of surprise, have her pick her favorite three, and then you make the final decision.

If you want your choice of ring to be a complete surprise, however, consider asking her parents for advice. This will not only give you ideas for a good ring choice, but will make them feel important because you asked them.

If her parents are still a little scary to you, consider asking on of her friends instead. Odds are if you are close to getting engaged, your future fiancé has discussed what she would like in an engagement ring with a friend. If she is willing, you can even take her friend to the jewelry store with you for more advice.
