» Should I use Long or Short Copy
What web copy is the most used and gets the best results? Well this depends on what you are selling. Here are some ideas and pointers that may help you decide:
· Using long copy: Depending on the product and the message you need to convey, long or short copy may be appropriate. However, it has been proven that long copy does sell. Most successful web marketers use copy that is as much as 10 to 20 pages with great results. Why is it necessary to write long copy? Because you need a certain amount of time and steps to create the right formula to entice people to buy from you. The best way to know whether you should write long copy or not is by following this criteria:
o You sell only one product – This is the best way to sell one product because you have to really explain your product so your visitor can understand what it does.
o You sell a service – This holds true as with a product. You need space to explain what type of service you are selling so your visitors will know exactly what your service is for and what you intend to do.
o You sell one type of product with limited variation – The best way to explain this is if you have, for example, eight different types of TVs and all have the same benefit, you will need to use long copy to explain each TV.
· Using short copy: If you have a website that promotes products from a catalog, and each product is different, long copy will not work here. It would look ridiculous and drive your customers crazy if you used a long sales letter for each product you had. For a site that uses short copy, you will need to write your copy the exact same way you would for a long sales letter, but in a smaller space. This means you will need to write short copy that is strong enough and place it on the home page. Then have it lead to individual product pages where they can read more copy for the product they are interested in.
