Windows Hosting Overview

When choosing a web hosting company to house your website, there are a lot of choices. Hosting services use various operating systems on their servers. You as a webmaster are looking for a hosting company that will provide you with the best service possible. You have a lot at stake with your site and you want to make sure that your hosting company is reliable and has the right operating system on their servers that will handle what you have with no problem. As was stated earlier, there are many web hosting providers out there. And since Windows happens to be the most predominate operating system used, it means you will receive Windows hosting. Why do you need Windows hosting? Why can’t you have UNIX instead? Well, there are many reasons. Take a look at the following reasons for why you may need Windows hosting instead of UNIX or any other hosting provider:

 

·        .Net scripts: If you have or use .Net scripting on any of your web pages you will need to use Windows hosting because UNIX will not work with .Net, at least not yet.

·        MS SQL: If you run a website that is driven by a database, you will need Windows, considering UNIX does not support Microsoft Access or MySQL.

·        ASP: If you run web pages that use ASP as an extension, you won’t be able to run it with UNIX. UNIX does not support ASP. It only supports PHP.

·        FrontPage: If you use FrontPage, you will find you be better off with Windows hosting because Windows supports it better. Also, if you are planning to use streaming media, you will do better with Windows.

·        Simpler to use: Although Windows is expensive it has an easy-to-use interface. This makes it the choice for hosting companies no matter who they are.
