When considering real estate in any area, checking out the neighborhoods is vital. While it would be impossible to list here all of the places in Virginia in which real estate is available and the characteristics of the neighborhoods, here are some of the major cities and what they look like:

• Virginia Beach. Located in South Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach is situation on the shores of both the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. A very scenic community, it is home to miles of beaches, many hotels and restaurants, several state parks, a few military bases, several universities and colleges, and many large corporations. Activities for everyone can be found in Virginia beach, whether its in the area golf courses and sports fields or the 4000 acres of parks. There is also a plethora of cultural centers and museums, not to mention the ocean.
• Richmond. This capital city of Virginia is located in between Hampton Roads and Washington DC, about two hours east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and two hours west of the Atlantic Ocean. The Richmond Metro Area is home to about a million people, and this residency is reflected in the cultural attractions, community facilities, historic shopping, and the great variety in types of housing – from city condos to secluded cabins.
• Charlottesville. Located in central Virginia, Charlottesville offers many historical sites including the homes of several presidents, Civil War battlefields, and the University of Virginia. With a population of just over 40,000 people, Charlottesville feels like a small town but still has the experiences of a big city available, like sports, cultural, shopping, dining, and outdoor activities.
• Fairfax. This Virginian city is really part of the Washington DC metropolitan area and thus is a progressive community filled with excitement. However, it still also manages to maintain the charm of its colonial roots with its historic buildings and landmarks mixed with little shops and comfy restaurants.
• Staunton. This “Queen City of the Shenandoah Valley” looks to some like a picture out of a story book with its rolling hills lying between mountains. However, Staunton is known for more than its beauty; its historical districts and modern businesses offer an interesting balance between the past and presents. Nine colleges and universities are nearby, and Staunton is known for its high education levels in all of its schools. It is also full of public parks and lovely yet diverse neighborhoods.
