Southwestern Vermont is comprised of the historic towns of Bennington, Arlington, Manchester, and Dorset. It is also home to Vermont’s pride and joy, the gorgeous Green Mountains. Housing is quite expensive in this area, with historic homes starting around $300,000. Housing in the outlying towns is slightly less expensive. There is little new construction in this portion of the state.
Southeastern Vermont’s hub is Brattleboro. Three-bedroom homes in the mid-$200s can be found in this area. Conversely, there are many estate homes in the area topping one million. Some of the smaller communities north of Brattleboro include Putney, Newfane, Townshend, Grafton, and Chester. They all have historic homes, but are most often quite expensive.
The far eastern corridor that runs up I-91 includes the cities of Bellows Falls and Springfield. Because of their location outside the concentrated tourist areas of southern Vermont, housing costs are slightly more reasonable, though still quite expensive. Some smaller historic homes can be found in the $200,000 range.
