Salt Lake City like all cities is made up of several different neighborhoods. Each one of the neighborhoods has its own personality and distinction. Listed below are some of the neighborhoods that make up Salt Lake City:

·        The Marmalade District: This neighborhood refers to the area of the city near the capitol building. Many of the streets in the area are named after fruits which is how it was dubbed the Marmalade District. This area was once considered run down but has experienced a revival in the last 10 years and is now considered to be quite desirable and trendy. The Marmalade District is not only made up of government buildings and offices it also has several commercial and private business as well as residential homes. Both Victorian mansions and offbeat homes line the streets of the Marmalade District.
·        Sugar House: The Sugar House neighborhood is actually the oldest neighborhood in Salt Lake City. The neighborhood features several specialty stores as well as chain stores such as Old Navy. There are also a large number of fast food and family restaurants. The first Utah state prison was built in this area but was eventually torn down and made into a park. During the 1980’s Sugar Hill was infested with drugs and other illegal activities. An active community effort was put in action to clean up the crime and now it’s one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city.
·        Rose Park: This is one of Salt Lake City’s poorest neighborhoods and is also considered to be the most racially diverse areas in the entire state. Crime caused by low poverty levels gained Rose Park a reputation as being a hard neighborhood on the wrong side of the tracks. Crime levels have gone down in recent years but unfortunately the area still has the reputation of being a bad area.
·        The Avenues: The Avenues is one of the city’s most well known neighborhoods. It is a popular neighborhood with residents due to its location in relation to the downtown area of the city. The Avenues is generally a residential neighborhood with a few commercial zonings located inside. The population of this neighborhood contains a large number of younger people as well as middle aged adults. Many students live in the area.
·        Federal Heights: This is one of Salt Lake City’s most affluent neighborhoods. Many of the beautiful homes here date back to the early 1900’s. The neighborhood is mostly residential but has some businesses in the area.
