Breakfast

The downside with York and is the case in many cities is that there aren’t many places to have breakfast unless staying in a bed and breakfast so the best option is to search for places to eat and if necessary to contact the local tourist agency for details of places.
AM and PM Activity

For the first day of your break, I suggest going further a field and seeing what the outskirts of York and visiting some of the outstanding countryside which provides excellent walks and is a good place for a family picnic.

One place that is worth walking around is the grounds of Castle Howard located 15 miles from York. The castle has an excellent history which is open to the public and has outstanding views of surrounding countryside. The views never fail to impress and with such a history, it really makes the trip worthwhile. Prices for adults are £9.50 and children are £6.50, this allows access to the house and grounds.

Lunch

Within the grounds of Castle Howard, there is a café that offers a variety of snacks to keep you going for the day and help you enjoy the rest of your day visit.

Dinner

The Black Bull Inn, Escrick is a family friendly environment that offers home cooked food in a relaxed environment and offers a wide range of foods including vegetarian options. You can contact the Inn on 01904 728245 but this is one place where you don’t need to book ahead.
