» Day One
AM Activity
For the first day I strongly suggest a visit to the York Castle Museum. It is draped with outstanding history and will take you through the eras of a changing city.
It gives you the chance to walk down a real Victorian street which gives you the feel of this great time in history and see the cells that held the likes of infamous highwaymen Dick Turpin before his execution. The museum offers a rich and varied history and will prove suitable for people of all ages. There is no need to book ahead and prices start from £3.50 which for a mornings entertainment, is excellent value for money.
Lunch
There is a restaurant on hand at the museum that caters for people with all tastes so why not stop off after a morning of learning and relax with a pleasant meal. Prices are reasonable and will keep the family going throughout the day in preparation for the afternoon’s activities.
PM Activity
After all that learning, I would take it easy and partake in a bit of shopping. The McArthur Glen shopping centre is located just five minutes from York town centre and offers hundreds of shops to pick up excellent bargains. All items are brand names but there is money to be saved as they are a lot cheaper than on the high street.
That is not all, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants on hand but if you just want to settle down with a
coffee then there are plenty of places to do so and dwell on your day.
Dinner
For a beautiful finish to your day, I would suggest booking a trip on the River Ouse which will take you and the family along the river where it starts and ends in the town centre.
It is an ideal family atmosphere and has a wonderful menu to choose from so you can dine in style. This 75 minute trip does not stop along the way but as it is a floodlit evening cruise, it makes a wonderful setting and adds an edge to the family break. It is not something many with do and with it being in the centre of York, it surprises many people that such a facility is available.
Prices are a modest £7.50 for adults and £6.50 for children. It is vital to book ahead and you can contact the ticket line on 01904 628324, this small cruise will offer a little luxury to your trip and the evening views of the river Ouse is outstanding.
