There are many caverns scattered throughout the Derbyshire countrywide and whilst they all have an interesting history, the Blue John Cavern tops the list.
The mine is over 2000 years old and it was used by the Romans hundreds of centuries ago to extract the beautiful Blue John stone that is still deposited in the mine today. A benefit for visitors, you can take home a piece of this stone whether it is in a piece of jewellery or dining furniture. It certainly makes a good conversation starter.
