Breakfast:

It is important for any break that you keep up your strength and by having a good breakfast on the first day is important and whilst you can use the facilities available in your accommodation, why not take a nice stroll and see what cafes are available to try.

One excellent place to try is the Hills n Dales Tea Rooms which offer a wide selection of hot and cold meals but they are only open over weekends and closed for two weeks in July.

If you are not sure where you want to eat after searching then I would say to contact the local tourist information centre and ask what facilities are in the local area, what they offer and details of opening times.

AM and PM Activity

For the first day, I recommend you participate in a steady trek and a walk around the local Tideswell area is outstanding and it is no more than 8 miles round trip but would not prove suitable for anyone aged 8 or under.

It is a beautiful walk and gives you the chance to see breathtaking scenery but you need to be have a certain level of fitness and ensure you wear the correct footwear to prevent slipping as paths can get quite muddy and slippery. This type of walk will prove an ideal place to settle down and have a picnic but if this is the case, please ensure that you don’t leave any litter behind because everyone wants to preserve the natural countryside.

Dinner

After a really healthy hike, you will most certainly be hungry and ready for a hearty meal with a nice glass of wine. For the evening, I suggest winding down and find a nice local pub with homemade cuisine because you can guarantee hospitality, good value and an excellent eat.

One pub that is highly outstanding and has been given a massive 9 out of the 10 is the Barlow Mow Inn in Ashbourne.  There are excellent beers on offer and whilst the menu is simple, the food is superb and it is a traditional family run pub so you can relax with a nice glass of wine and good food. That is how a pub should be.
