Thailand is rich in diversity. The different sub-cultures have wonderful distinct dialects, foods, art forms, and even patterns in weaving fabric. The land is diverse with mountainous regions, rain forests, vast plains, and areas of tropical paradise. Bangkok is a thoroughly modern city that is filled with non-stop commerce and activity. But outside of Bangkok are uncrowded rural areas. Even the larger cities of Nakon Ratchasima (Korat), Chiang Mai, or Khon Kaen have a very nice small-town feel to them. A large percentage of Thais are hard working rice farmers. Many of these people have never been to Bangkok, or at least, have only visited the city once or twice. Life for them is much more laid-back, simple and peaceful.
