Bangkok has a wide range of types of accommodations. For just a few dollars (US) a night, you can stay in a decent room with a bed, fan and private bath. These guest houses and hostels can be found in or near areas where regular hotels are found, but one of the most popular areas for “trekkers” is Khao San Road area. Siam Square is another popular area because it is centrally located in the city near shopping, entertainment and great sight-seeing. For those who are in and out of Bangkok to see other parts of Thailand, staying near the Hualamphong train station or the airport would be a good idea.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Bangkok boasts some of the top rated hotels in the world. By comparison to top rated hotels in other parts of the world, these are considered very inexpensive. The Oriental Hotel is very famous for its history, service and beauty. Several other high-end hotels are located near the Oriental beside the Chao Phraya River that runs north and south through the city. Other business or tourist areas of the city offer very nice accommodations. For an air conditioned room with all the perks of a western hotel, expect to pay between $50 and $150 (US) dollars.
