Siam Square/ Phloenchit area:
Located near lots of great shopping and entertainment, the Siam Square area has lots of nice hotels, including:
• The Novotel Siam runs about seventy-five (US) dollars a night. The hotel has an entertainment complex that features live bands.
• The Pathumwan Princess features a workout facility and a health food restaurant. It is across the street from Siam Square and rates are around seventy-five (US) dollars a night.
• The Asia Hotel The big advantage of the Asia Hotel is its location because it has a walkway from the hotel to the Sky Train. The rates are usually a little under fifty (US) dollars a night. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the hotel has several different restaurants including a Chinese one and a Brazilian one.
• Intercontinental Hotel is a one hundred and fifty (US) dollars a night hotel that is adjacent to great shopping, as well as access to the Sky Train.
• The Grand Hyatt Erawan is located next to the famous Erawan shrine. It is also around one-hundred and fifty dollars a night and offers beautiful accommodations. Even if you are not able to spend the night, a meal at the Italian restaurant is a wonderful treat.
Sukhumvit Area: Located east of the Siam Square area and contains a mixture of business, living, shopping and entertainment areas.
• Jim’s Lodge: If you are an American in Bangkok with the sole purpose of needing to visit the US Embassy and you don’t want to spend a lot of money, this is where you need to stay. The hotel rates are in the $20-30 range, and better yet, you can take a ten minute walk to the US Embassy on Wireless Rd
• Zenith Sukhumvit is around seventy five dollars a night and is located near the embassies, the Sky Train and the expressway to the airport.
• The JW Marriot is a beautiful respite in the hustle and bustle of the city. Live music is often playing in the lobby. The rooms are tastefully decorated and rates run around one hundred and thirty dollars (US) a night.
• The Davis Bangkok is a boutique hotel running about seventy-five dollars a night. It features flat-screen TVs, CD/DVD players and rooms that are each decorated in a unique theme.
• The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is a large hotel running a little under two-hundred dollars a night with all the fine amenities you can expect from a world-class facility.
Siloam Area is noted for its banking and commercial centers as well as it’s proximity to the infamous “illegal yet legal” entertainment venues.
• Bangkok Christian Guesthouse is a located behind the Central Department Store on a small street between Convent Rd and Soi Sala Daeng. It has been recently renovated. These inexpensive accommodations include a good breakfast.
• The Monohra Hotel is around twenty-five dollars (US) a night and is a step above guest-house accommodations.
• The Holiday Inn Siloam runs around sixty dollars (US) a night. The hotel is located near the Sky Train Surasak Train station.
• The Montien Hotel is around seventy-five dollars (US) and is located to the heart of Siloam.
• The Dusit Thani overlooks beautiful Lumpini Park and is a world-class Thai hotel that will enable to enjoy true Thai tradition first hand. Rates for this hotel run over one hundred and thirty dollars (US).
Riverside Area means the area adjacent to the Chao Praya River. Staying in the river side means easy access to attractions via riverboat taxis as well as close proximity to the Sky Train that can take you further into the city with ease.
• The Bossotel Inn is a nice hotel under forty dollars. The Menam Riverside Hotel has rates in the similar range.
• The Shangri-La is much more expensive but is full of abundant amenities. Rates range in the one-hundred to one fifty (US) dollars range.
• The Bangkok Marriot Resort and Spa is a top rated spa with many opportunities to wind down and relax in the busy city of Bangkok. Prices start over one-hundred dollars (US) a night.
• The Millennium Hilton is a modern and fairly new hotel that offers three restaurants and two bars. Rates start over one hundred dollars.
• Perhaps the “grand-daddy” of all hotels in Bangkok is The Oriental. It boosts of a rich history, impeccable service and beautiful surroundings. Often a top rated hotel in the world, rates are around two-hundred and fifty dollars (US).
Airport Area: the Don Muang airport is the current international airport in Bangkok and is located about twenty to thirty minutes from the heart of Bangkok. Of course, in rush hour, the trip will take much longer. However, there are several express toll ways that make the trip faster. A new airport is under construction in the southeastern part of Bangkok. The opening date for this new facility, which will replace Don Muang, is some time in 2007. • The Quality Suites Hotel is located about 10 minutes from the airport. The rooms are clean and very spacious. The rooms run for a little less than fifty (US) dollars a night. The nice thing about this hotel is that it offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport.
• Slightly more expensive than the Quality Suites Hotel is the Rama Gardens Hotel. This facility has a nice restaurant and gardens area, hence the name!
• The Sofitel Central Hotel is located about fifteen minutes from the airport (with no traffic problems!) and is adjacent to a nice mall. The restaurant serves a wonderful breakfast buffet. Rates are around eighty dollars a night.
• The Amari Hotel is located directly across the street from Don Muang International Airport. You can walk to the hotel, thanks to an air conditioned walkway that crosses the expressway. Rates are over one-hundred and fifty dollars a night.
