Making the decision of which area you want to live in can often be the most difficult. All areas of Knoxville have something unique to offer that gives them identity and value. One community may be desirable because of its easy access to downtown employment while another may be desirable because of its recreational opportunities or the cost of living.

Knoxville is full of historic neighborhoods, lake homes, and existing and new developments. The following are just a few communities in which you can look for a home:

• Historic Old North Knoxville – This neighborhood became a historic district in 1982 and has since been restoring and renovating the homes in this area. This is a neighborhood that reflects a diversity of architectural styles ranging from shotguns to mansions, most reflecting the architectural styles of the late 19th and 20th centuries. The homes vastly range in size from 1,000 square feet all the way up to 9,000 square feet. Since becoming a historic neighborhood there has been an increase in home sales and the property values in this area have risen. Sales price per square foot has increased a whopping 157 percent since 1990. The children in this area attend Christenberry Elementary School, Whittle Springs Middle School, and Fulton High School.
• Historic Fourth & Gill – A neighborhood that flourished in the last quarter of the 19th Century. Many of the homes in this neighborhood were designed by some of Knoxville’s most notable architects. Within the last two decades the neighborhood has begun to reclaim much of the glory it experienced in the past. It has one of the lowest crime rates in the district.
• Parkridge – This is a neighborhood that was developed in the 1880s. This historic neighborhood is bordered by Interstate 40 on the north, Magnolia Avenue on the south, Cherry Street on the east, and First Creek and the Southern Railroad on the west.
• North Hill – A post World War I and pre-World War II subdivision developed in 1927. It covered 185 acres and was at one time one of the largest subdivisions in Knoxville. There are still beautiful homes there from which you can choose if you are interested in living in a historic area of Knoxville.
• Silver Stone – One of the newest premiere developments in North Knoxville. This neighborhood features custom villas and single family homes with lots starting at $39,900.00. This development offers a pool, pool house, playground, covered patio area, and a Bar-B-Q area. Silver Stone is conveniently located within minutes of shopping, the lake, and the interstate highway.
