Paracelsus was a 16th century Swiss scientist who introduced the field of chemistry to medicine. This started a long-standing tradition of Swiss scientists, including the Bernoulli family from Basel, famous for their three generations of significant mathematical contributions. Another famous Swiss mathematician was Leonhard Euler. Horace-Bénédict de Saussure pioneered Alpine studies and was a famous naturalist. Switzerland’s Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich is responsible for turning out numerous Nobel Prize winners. The linguistics field was improved by Ferdinand de Saussure’s contributions, and Albert Einstein, who was born in Germany, moved to Switzerland in 1895 and became an official Swiss citizen in 1901.
