Architecture is an integral part of Swiss tradition and culture. Cathedrals in Basel, Sion, Chur, Geneva, and Lausanne showcase the Romanesque style of the 12th century. This style is also common in the well-preserved castles and fortresses of Switzerland. The Schaffhausen, Zug, and Zürich cathedrals are Gothic, and the Einsiedeln and St. Gallen churches are Baroque.

Modern architecture is extensive in Switzerland. Some famous and influential architects from Switzerland include Mario Botta, Jacques Herzog, and Pierre de Meuron.
