Central Switzerland played a major part in the country’s history, since the first alliance between cantons was formed here. The famous and historical bridge, the Schöllenen Bridge, which aided in early travel, is also located in Central Switzerland. In fact, this region is full of historic sites and beautiful countryside, cities, Alpine valleys, and canyons. Surfers enjoy the wind and water, and mountain trains and suspended cable cars dot the skyline. In winter, tourists enjoy skiing and snowboarding on perfect powder-like snow, and then curling up in a comfortable inn in a mountain village. This area is also known for its world-famous monastery churches.
