The Swedish Language is one of 4 Scandinavian Languages. The others include Norwegian, Danish, and Icelandic. All 4 of these languages are very similar and it is common that people from Sweden can understand the other 3 main Scandinavian languages when engaging in conversation with someone who speaks one of them. The Swedish Language is primarily used through out the country. However there are some areas in the north that speak Finnish as well as Sami but most Swedes are taught to speak Swedish as their first language. English is also widely used in Sweden. Many Swedish schools now teach English as a second language and with the tourist economy being so strong and a large portion of it being English speaking visitors many Swedes can speak at least some English.
