The predominant religion in Sweden is the Protestant religion. The Church of Sweden was originally the national church and Swedish people didn’t have a choice in what Religion they practiced. But in 1996 the church became separate from the government and citizens were free to practice what ever religion they wished. Since that time the Church of Sweden has seen a significant decline in its membership. Both the Jewish and Catholic religions have become prevalent in Sweden since that time. The large immigrant population has also brought the Muslim and Hindu religions to Sweden. Mormon, Pentecostal, and Jehovah’s Witness churches can also be found in the country.
