The Swedish culture is very literate culture. They cherish books and there are over 2,000 public libraries in the country with about 65 million books being checked out each year. A large number of the books read in Sweden are books written by international writers and translated into Swedish. However there are still a handful of Swedish writers that make it onto the country’s bestsellers list such as Harry Martinson, August Strindberg, Vilhelm Moberg, and Astrid Lindgren.
