The social welfare in Sweden provides free education to all residents up to and also including some colleges, paid prenatal leave, tax funded childcare, retirement pensions, free dental care for those 20 years old and under, and sick leave that is partly paid by the employer. The welfare in Sweden allows parents a total of 480 days off from the time their child is born until they are 8 years of age. There is also a cap on health care costs which makes it easier for Swedes to take time of for medical conditions. A recession in the 1990’s forced the end of some welfare practices such as education vouchers and certain health care services.
