A high importance is placed on education in Sweden. As part of the welfare state all children in Sweden ages 1-5 are given access to free child care facilities. Children ages 6-16 attend school and then after the 9th grade an average of 90% of children continue on in their education with a 3 year secondary education institution. At the completion of the secondary schooling each child is qualified to continue their schooling at a university or college.
