Upon arrival to Stockholm, the Gamla Stan is a great place to start a day’s sightseeing. The Gamla Stan, also known as “Old Town” is Stockholm’s first settlement. It is located in the heart of Stockholm and contains the Vasterlanggatan, the most touristy street in Sweden. This street is lined with shops that offer rare gifts and brilliant souvenirs.

Once you’ve done a little shopping, don’t be afraid to veer off the street a little to go exploring. Take a stroll down the neighboring street of Prastagatan, which has the same charm but fewer crowds. Then, look for Osterlanggatan. This is an old square in the town that usually has an open market where you can find something delicious to eat.

After lunch, be sure and stop by the Royal Palace. The Royal Palace is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located just to the east of Vasterlanggatan.
This palace has 608 breathtaking rooms and is one of the largest surviving royal palaces in Europe. While there, be sure and see the Banqueting Apartments and the Museum of Antiguities, known world over for their charm and beauty.

Once you are finished viewing the Gamla Stan, venture just south to the city known as Sodermalm. This is the home to some of Scotland’s hotspots and has many dining choices as well as nightclubs. Take a seat at the Bla Porten Café to enjoy a delicious dinner. This restaurant is known for its large buffet that offers the best in baked goods. After you have eaten, go for a short walk to digest the food and gaze at the art exhibits at Liljevalchs, which is just around the corner.

After you are done eating, dance the night away at one of Sodermalm’s many nightclubs. After a night of dancing, you will be happy to rest your head at the Hostel Bed and Breakfast. This cozy hostel is located in a 19th century building and is sure to give you a good nights sleep.
