This is the northern most part of the state, from east to west. It has some mountains, waterfalls and whitewater. It borders North Carolina. Hotels are divided into two categories:

Low to average rates ($50-$75/night):
• American House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast-Piedmont, South Carolina: $55/night single room.
• Super Motel 8-Piedmont: This hotel only offers the very basics: Average $70/night
• Comfort Inn-Clemson: $79/night—Great spot for a college visit.
• Extended Stay-3715 Pelham Road, Greenville: Has a full kitchen, microwave, refrigerator, modem, and laundry facility on campus. $30-50/night.
• Holiday Express-121 Traveler Drive, Spartanburg: Great location, only five minutes from downtown Spartanburg. You can reserve a room with a microwave and refrigerator if needed and there is a full business center in the hotel. $60-110/night
• Sleep Inn-501 South Blackstock Road, Spartanburg: Close to shopping and restaurants and offers complimentary breakfast and modem. $60-70/night.
• Comfort Inn-611 W. Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greer: Nice hotel for such a small town. Gym, pool, and continental breakfast offered. $68-$80/night.
• Sleep Inn-110 Hawkins Road, Traveler’s Rest: Nice clean facilities, but not many amenities. $58-70/night

High rates ($76+/night):
• Crown Plaza, 851 Congarey Road, Greenville: Many fine amenities and fairly luxurious, this hotel has two relaxing cafes as well as high speed internet, an indoor pool and a health and fitness center. $98.95/night
• Embassy Suites-670 Verdae Boulevard, Greenville: This place is a golf resort and conference center and offers tennis courts, child care and made-to-order breakfast. $100-120/night
• Walnut Lane Inn Bed and Breakfast-110 Ridge Road, Lyman (Right outside Spartanburg): This home was featured in the South Carolina Homes and Gardens magazine as a fine bed and breakfast. Built in 1902 and set on what used to be a large cotton plantation, this home will take you back in time. $95-125/night.
• Ramada Inn-U.S. Highways 76 and 123, Clemson: Deluxe continental breakfast, wireless internet, fitness center or spa. Rates hover around $100/night.
• Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites-107 Interstate Boulevard- Anderson: $81.95/night. This location actually looks like a good bang for the buck!
