As mentioned above, there are many options available for someone who wishes to purchase a robotic vacuum. From very basic models which may be purchased for less than $100, to vacuums with multiple features (some of which can even double as security devices) that approach $2,000, there are robotic vacuums that match almost anyone’s tastes. As you examine the various robotic vacuums, keep the following factors in mind:
· Floor type: Do you have hardwood floors, or a mixture of hardwood and carpet? Do you have low-pile carpet, or is your carpet unusually plush? Floor type is an important consideration for two separate reasons. First and foremost, many robotic vacuums are recommended only for low-pile carpets. Consequently, if you own high-pile carpet you may find it difficult to find a reasonably priced robotic vacuum that adequately cleans your carpet. Additionally, if your home has a mixture of carpeted and non-carpeted areas, you’ll want to select a robotic vacuum that automatically adjusts the height of its cleaning deck when switching between floor types.
· Amount of supervision required: This is closely connected to the money you’re willing to pay for extra features, such as self-charging and automatic dust-bin dumping. If you don’t mind monitoring the vacuum yourself there’s little reason to pay the extra money for some of the more advanced features, since many of those features work principally to increase the autonomy of the robotic vacuum.
· Is the robotic vacuum supplementary? If your robotic vacuum will only serve as a supplement to your normal vacuuming, you may not require a great deal of precision or cleaning power from it. However, if you’d rather not personally vacuum your house at all, you’ll want to buy the best robotic vacuum you can afford. Some new models even include brushes that allow the robotic vacuum to clean edges and corners, which is a feat that many older, cheaper models are incapable of performing.
· Aesthetics: Most robotic vacuums are small and utterly utilitarian in design, but many higher-priced models now offer sleek, colorful designs. It’s not as though your robotic vacuum will be a decorative centerpiece even if you purchase one of those models, but it’s less likely that you’ll feel the need to toss your robotic vacuum in the closet when you have company.
