When you clean and shampoo your carpets, always take extra steps to make sure you get your carpets as clean as you can get them. Although your shampooer is designed for cleaning deeply engrained dirt, a little help on your part wouldn’t hurt to make the machine’s job easier. Also keep in mind that you are not just out for cleanliness sake but also to rid your house of allergies. Here are some tips that can help you do this:
· Fresh Stains: If the carpet has fresh stains, you can use a paper towel to blot out the liquid and spray the area with a recommended carpet stain remover.
· Stubborn Stains: Spray a recommended carpet stain remover thoroughly on stain. Allow about 60 seconds for the stain remover to penetrate stain. Blot with paper towel.
· Removing Allergens: You can use a dry carpet cleaning powder on your rug or carpet just before shampooing. This will help to kill up to 70% of the mold, mildew, pollen, pet dander, and dust mites.
Remember when cleaning the stain not to scrub it stain. Just blot it. Rubbing can force the stain into the carpet more fully. And for how often to shampoo the rug or carpet – that depends on how big the rug or carpet is and how dirty is gets. You should shampoo the most active areas at least once or twice a month. Other areas can be less frequent – maybe every two months. If allergens concern you, shampoo these areas every eight weeks at least.
