If you purchase an unassembled blender, carefully follow the assembly instructions described in the owner’s manual. As with any appliance, the owner’s manual is also a good place to start when the blender seems not to be working properly.
When you are ready to use your blender, add liquids before inserting solid food; adding liquids first enables the blender to evenly mix the contents. You can also enhance your blender’s operation by cutting solid ingredients into small pieces before placing them into the blender; do some of the blender’s work yourself. Insert your ingredients, and then turn on the blender and hold down the cover. If you need to add ingredients, turn off the blender and take off the lid (unless you have a filler cap). In general, it’s also a good idea to feed in small portions at a time; dumping an entire ingredient into the blender at one time lessens your blender’s effectiveness.
If your glass blender is chipped, do not use it. Thoroughly clean it to ensure that no glass chips remain in the jar. If your blender is cracked, or if it chips further, throw it away and purchase a replacement. The blades and sides of the blender’s glass container are sturdy, but you should still be careful not to blend especially hard items without softening them or adding a liquid to soften their blows against the appliance. Another way to harm a blender is to store food in it, so once you use your blender, move the contents to other containers and clean it.
A blender is easy to clean, but you use different methods to clean the different parts of your blender. Wipe the power base of your blender clean with a damp cloth; don’t immerse it in water, as it has electrical wiring inside it. As for the glass container, the simplest way to clean it is to fill the container halfway with water and add a small amount of dish soap. Then, run the blender on low speed to clean it, and once you have finished, rinse out the soap. Some parts of your blender are also dishwasher safe, but check the owner’s manual before you place any part of your blender in the dishwasher.
