Decide what you want to do on your trip to San Diego and THEN decide where you want to get your hotel. Again, you may find a great deal on a hotel in National City, but if you end up burning lots of time and money running up and down the I-5 to get to Legoland for your kids, then it may not be such a deal after all. Make your itinerary and then do your research as to which hotel in the nearby area would be the best bet. Each area has the run of hotels in each price point and you should have no problem finding something in your price range within a reasonable distance from where you will be spending most of your trip. Deciding on your priorities first will serve you well long-term on your trip. Some travelers prize convenience over all else and therefore should look for a hotel that will best meet their needs for accomplishing such convenience. If you have small children and want to spend as little time in the car as possible, but still want the pool, the beach and restaurants, then you would want to center your search on the hotels that front the beach in the seaside areas of San Diego. These hotels can offer a great deal within walking distance and that can be of great value to parents of small children who want to go to the beach, but can only take an hour or so of beach time. The back and forth in the car, loading-up and unloading can take so much time, that a trip to the beach becomes a nuisance instead of an exciting outing! This can be really miserable for everyone involved. Be prepared, however, to pay more for this convenience. If on the other hand, you don’t mind a short drive and your kids are older or you are without kids altogether, then staying inland may save you money and afford you some great deals on a higher grade hotel.
