The city that is known to the world today as San Diego was discovered in 1542 and named San Miguel by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. Sixty years later it became San Diego de Alacala when Sebastian Vizcaino arrived as the leader of an expedition of explorers of California. The history of the city is full of the rich background of being discovered and rediscovered by those with both ambition and mission. But today it is one of the largest cities in the country with a growing and diverse population that is privy to an array of opportunities educationally, socially and economically! If you were to ask a hundred people why they might decide to visit San Diego or decide to live there, you would most likely get a hundred very different answers. Economic opportunity, great weather and a diverse culture top the list for many visitors. Vacationers are attracted to the city’s friendliness, the city’s opportunities for sports and outdoor recreation, while those who might be interested in being residents love the incredibly low crime rate and top-rated schools.
