Spend day three in the capital city of Rhode Island, Providence. You will want to see the Waterplace Park and Riverwalk which encircles a tidal basin and borders the Woonasquatucket River. This is a four acre park that has an amphitheater, boat landings, spouting fountain in the middle of a pond, and waterfire events which are the lighting of 97 bonfires along the river held here on New Year’s Eve and 20 other times during July through October. Waterplace Park and Riverwalk can be reached by boat, car, or gondola.

If you are in the mood for some shopping, Providence Place Mall is right across the street from Waterplace Park and Riverwalk.

After eating lunch, you will want to see the Fleet Skating Center which is nearby Waterplace Park and Riverwalk. This skating rink is twice the size of New York’s Rockefeller Center with its 14,000 square feet of skating space. The rink is used for rollerblading during the summer. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for senior citizens and children under the age of 12.

If time allows, you will want to make your way to East Providence to see the Rhode Island School of Design’s museum. This museum traces the history of art through more than 85,000 works of art from all of over the world including Greek statues, Chinese terra cotta, and French Impressionist paintings. Admission is $6.00 for adults.

Another good choice in Providence is the Roger Williams Park and Zoo located on Elmwood Avenue. You can picnic at this 430 acre Victorian park, rent a paddleboat or miniature speedboat, ride a vintage carousel, visit the Planetarium, or the Museum of Natural History. There are more than 900 animals to visit at the zoo. Admission is $6.00 for the museum and the hours are 10 to 5 daily. The zoo is open 9 to 5 daily and admission is $10.00.
