For Portugal this has almost always been the heart of the country and whilst it is currently known as the capital, this has not always been the case. During a brief stint in the early 19th century, Lisbon was claimed by the Spanish armies and Rio de Janeiro replaced it as capital but as the English helped defend the Portuguese locals, Lisbon was claimed back just a few years later.

There are many beautiful attractions scattered throughout this wonderful region and this can vary from medieval castles and palaces to outstanding views of the blue oceans from cliff tops and such a wonderful place, deserves high praise.
