Bathroom Faucets Overview

Do you hear water dripping from your bathroom faucet at night? Does it keep you awake? Or do you find the faucets are getting worn. The water just won’t come out like it use to. Although the bathroom is the less traveled room in the house, you still need good working faucets or you will waste money. When you have to replace the faucet do you want just any faucet? You have to consider several things before you replace the bathroom faucet. If you want your buying experience to be the best it can be here are some tips to consider:

 

·        Faucet Selection: Is the faucet you want compatible with you sink? The holes have to match. There are usually four different types to work with:

o       Single-hole – In order to use this type of faucet, you will have to drill a single hole for the faucet to go through.

o       4” Centerset – This type requires drilling three holes close together for the either a single-control faucet with escutcheon, or a two-handled faucet with the spout and handles attached as a unit.

o       8” to 16” Widespread – With this type you will have to drill three holes a little further apart than the 4” centerset. This is for the faucet with two handles that are separate from the spout.

o       Wall-mount – This faucet is used primarily in lavatories where no holes need to be drilled. However, you need a wall-mount vale and drain to install this type.  

·         Spout Type: You will need to determine this by the material that your bathtub or sink is made of. Here are two common types:

o       Bath-mount – This type of installation mounts directly to the fixture. These are good for Acrylic or FRP bath tubs or sinks.

o       Deck-mount – This type of installation works with longer spouts that reach over the bath rim. The type of bathtubs or sinks for this would be those made of cast iron, because the material is too tough to drill.

·        Shower Control: Every bathroom uses a diverter of some type in the shower to allow the water to go out the faucet, especially if there is a bathtub installed. What type of diverter do you need? Usually they come with small lift knobs on the top of the spout. Or the diverter may be on the button of the value faceplate.

·        Bathroom Look: The best choice of faucet for your bathroom would be one that matches the look and décor of your bathroom. Everything should match appropriately.
