Enjoy many first rate, five-star hotels right on the ocean and listen to the waves crash against the shore. The many casinos will delight the gambler in you and the numerous shopping malls will delight the shopper in you. The malls offer the biggest bargains you will find anywhere – shoes, baskets, crafts, shirts, souvenirs, you name it. You can even visit Magellan’s Cross and the Basilica Minore del Santo Nina, the country’s oldest religious relic. It’s more or less required to stop at Colon Street located in the downtown area of Cebu. This street was originally built by the Spaniards, but now boasts malls, movie houses, restaurants and businesses.
Also, you will definitely enjoy the white sandy beaches that are the perfect temperature year round. Work on that tan in this tropical paradise.
With all the coral and tropical fish surrounding the island, Cebu is one of the best diving spots in the country. If diving is not your thing, try snorkeling.
Since Cebu features and international airport, Mactan Island is a premier holiday destination. Hotel facilities are first class and golf courses are readily available. Travelers mostly opt to stay in the cheaper accommodations around the circle area in Cebu City.
Those who have more time to spent may want to explore the smaller islands north of Cebu. Tiny Malapascua Island can be reached by a five hour bus ride to Maya along with a 10-minute boat ride from there. Keep in mind that number of arrivals, as well as facilities and electricity are limited. Bantayan Island is gaining popularity as it recently can be reached by plane from Cebu in 25 minutes.
The Southwestern coast of Cebu is mostly visited by divers, heading for Moalboal, or by families staying in secluded Badian Island. The trip to Moalboal takes a picturesque three-hour land ride one way from Mactan airport. Various choices of eateries, bars and disco are available. Various activities are possible in the mountainous backland as well.
