» Introduction to pet doors
Ogden Nash joked, “A door is what a dog is perpetually on the wrong side of.” Ideally, pet doors provide the solution to this dilemma of the dog, but they can be either a simple or a fancy solution. A pet door might be as simple as a flap at the base of the door, or it might be as complex as a motion sensitive, electronic sliding panel.
The best pet doors make a pet owner’s job much easier as the pet should be able to operate the door completely on its own. At the same time, however, the door should conserve energy as much as possible and provide some security from unwanted human or animal entrances. A simple flap costs less than twenty dollars, and you can install it yourself; the most specialized pet doors, on the other hand, cost several hundred dollars and require professional installation.
