An Overview of Dog Beds

We have all heard that a dog is a man’s best friend. So it should go without saying that we want this special pet to be well taken care of, even to the point of providing a comfortable bed for our special “Fido.” Despite the fact that domestic dogs evolved from wolves, they still need a “den” or a space to call their own. Just like dogs, a dog’s bed may come in a variety of shapes, sizes and cost. Supplying your dog with a dog bed is usually preferable to the household furniture, and it is a wise investment for families and for pets.

Comfortable bed vs. the floor: For maximum comfort, dogs need a warm bed away from drafts and off of the floor. Bedding may be a blanket or pillow but should be washed often. Purchased dog beds that are easily washed provide convenience for families. Providing a comfortable bed or beds for your dog is often more desirable than your pet sleeping with you or your children. Beds should be substantial enough for stretching but cozy enough for sleeping.

Crates: Dog crates also provide your pet a place to call their own. When properly used, crates can aid in housetraining puppies as well as providing pets a “time out” period for calming down. The crate is can be compared to a wolf’s den, and dogs do not want to soil their dens. Crates can be made very comfortable with a blanket, pillow or any soft fabric that makes the floor of the crate cushy to accommodate the dog.
