Those furry masked marauders that raid your trash cans under the cover of darkness could also rob your dog, cat or family of its health.

With seven raccoons having tested positive for rabies this year in Nassau County - and the summer fast approaching - officials are reminding residents to have their dogs, cats and ferrets vaccinated.


"With warm weather, pets may spend more time outdoors and come in contact with other animals," said Dr. David Ackman, the county's commissioner of health.


Only half as many raccoons got into my garbage, and luckily my twelve gauge did all the testing I needed.
