They already know how to rescue humans in the event of a fire.
But last week, Eagan firefighters learned life-saving techniques for the furrier members of a family: pets.
Members of the Eagan Fire Department took a course called Basic Animal Rescue Training, or B.A.R.T., a program of the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association.
B.A.R.T. is a free course offered to Minnesota fire departments that teaches first responders how to save pets’ lives in an emergency.
Eagan firefighters often encounter pets in emergency situations, said Eagan Fire Chief Michael Scott.
