Surrounding the ruins is a picaresque forest area that contains the beautiful Mandor Waterfall. To get there, hike following the railway out of Aguas Calientes (officially called Machu Picchu Pueblo) for about forty-five minutes till you reach a railway crossing. Near the crossing are some houses whose inhabitants will direct you to the waterfall.

On the neighboring peak of Huayna Picchu, more gorgeous scenery can be seen, as well as the so-called "Temple of the Moon." This Incan temple was probably involved in worshipping a mountain spirit dwelling in Huayna Picchu.

In Aguas Calientes itself are hot springs that you can reach within a ten-minute walk from the central plaza. The natural sauna of mineral water with variable temperatures offers excellent relaxation and medical therapy. The thermal baths soothe bodily ailments like rheumatism, relieves stress and bodily toxins, assists bodily metabolism, and helps prevent high blood pressure, among other things.
