The Kimmel Center for Performing Arts provides an excellent place to start when looking for cultural opportunities of the city. Resident groups that perform at the Center are: the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, PHILADANCO (Philadelphia Dance Company), Peter Nero & the Philly Pops, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet and American Theater Arts for Youth. The Philadelphia Museum of Art also hosts many special exhibits and programs. The Museum offers an opportunity called Art After 5, every Friday until 8:45 p.m. This event features live performances, food and more.
If you are an avid art-lover, you will want to check out First Fridays. First Fridays take place the first Friday evening of each month in the Old City art district. You can wander into the district’s 40 or more galleries free of charge. Most galleries are open from 5:00-9:00 p.m.
