Kids have always been fascinated with helium balloons, and parents can use this to their advantage with one of the difficult rites of passage for some toddlers: giving up the pacifier. Take your toddler to a party store or simply the grocery store and allow them to choose a special balloon. After explaining carefully what is going to happen, help them tie their pacifier to the balloon and release it into the sky.

Helium balloons have been used for years with youth groups and student groups. You can have kids write down something they are struggling with on a card, attach it to a helium balloon, and "release" their problems.

A festive balloon release has become a popular alternative to throwing rice or birdseed at a bride and groom as they depart their wedding. A balloon designer or party planner creates a grouping of balloons to match the color scheme of the wedding and releases them as the happy couple leaves for their honeymoon. The spectacle allows for beautiful photos, and the bride is not left to pick out birdseed or flower petals from her hair.

Balloon bouquets can replace flower bouquets as gifts for those sick in hospitals. While some flowers can require care, or even cause allergies, balloons simply add a bright touch to any room. Balloon bouquets are also greatly for elderly folks who may not have the ability to care for flowers or plants.
