Today’s adventure will take you along the full length of Panama’s most famous trail, the Camino Real. This legendary passage is made up of a series of trails linking Panama City with the port city of Protobelo. It has an extremely rich and colorful history. The Camino Real was the only resemblance of a continuous roadway across the isthmus from the 16th century until 1904. Peruvian gold and other natural products were transported from Panama City to Portobelo by mule train along El Camino Real. The products were then held for an annual trading fair that lured Spanish Galleions laden with European goods.
An expert guide will relate the history of the area and describe the flora and fauna inhabiting the El Camino Real. During the trek you can visit the old mining town of Santa Librada and discover 19th century trains, abandoned to the jungle.
