Starting a fire is no longer requires the patience of Job and the expertise of a boys scout thanks to the ingenuity of modern foire starter accessories.
  • Matches. Matches that are made for woodstoves are made extra long allow you to still hold the match and to insert it into the stove to start your fire.
  • Lighters. The convenient alternative to matches is a butane lighter with a long barrel that gives you a constant flame at the touch of a button.
  • Fire Starter. A fire begins with easily ignitable material that burns hot enough and long enough to catch your wood on fire. Fire starters are manufactured logs or smaller sticks that are formed of easily lit flammable materials. Never use gasoline or lighter fluid to start a fire. Fire starters, however, offer a safe solution to avoid the frustration of a fire that just will not light.
  • Bellows.  Bellows are a source of blowing air that causes the fire to burn hotter once it is lit. Traditional bellows are made of wood and leather with a metal barrel. The two sides are pumped back and forth forcing air out of the bellows thus fanning the flames. Today electronic bellows run by a fan are available for the diehard woodstove user.
