Porch swings are synonymous with the American south. They are often found on the large front porches common in the south. They represent a simpler time in history, before the popularity of television, when families spent time together in the evenings. They were places where proposals were made; dates came to an end; where moms and dads sat and watched their children play, and where neighbors sat and visited while sipping iced tea. But for practical purposes, the porch swing was a retreat from the warm house on a hot summer evening, if only to create a small breeze. Today, with air-conditioning in most homes, less time is spent on the porch and more time is spent indoors. Nevertheless, porch swings are making a comeback, especially with baby boomers. Because of their renewed popularity, manufacturers are creating porch swings in a large variety of styles for every budget. .  Although a wrap-around porch on a Victorian home would seem bare without a wicker porch swing adorned with colorful cushions, contemporary styles are also complimentary to a modern styled home. The sweet nostalgia of the porch swing is becoming more appealing to many people in America, and thus is regaining popularity once again.
