» What maintenance is required for awnings?
The life and good looks of your awning can depend a lot on how you use your awning as well as how good you take care of it. Here are some do’s and don’ts…
Do’s:
· Do keep your awning clean. This is the best way to keep your awning mildew free, even if it is a mildew-resistant fabric. Keep excess dirt and other foreign materials off of the surface of the awning to prevent any damage or staining of the fabric.
· Do wash your awning. If your have a vinyl coated fabric, then just lightly brush over it with a cloth or soft towel. If you use a mild soap, be sure to rinse immediately.
· Do hose off your awning with clean water monthly.
· Do store your awning when it is completely dry. Mildew is a fabric’s greatest enemy and is caused by dampness. This can permanently stain the fabric.
Don’ts:
· Don’t roll out your awning in cold temperatures.
· Don’t allow water to stand on the awning. This could cause puncture holes or stretching of the fabric.
· Don’t overlook any small rips or wholes. These should all be repaired as soon as possible.
