The city of Tulsa is comprised of 187 square miles. The metropolitan area is made up of seven counties (Tulsa, Rogers, Osage, Wagoner, Okmulgee, Pawnee and Creek) and over 20 suburbs and outlying cities. Some of these include Broken Arrow, Bartlesville, Owasso, Dewey, Bristow, Sapulpa, Jenks and Claremore. Demographically speaking, Tulsa is predominantly Caucasian (70%), with other population segments including African-American (15%), Native American (5%), and Asian (2%). The other 8% are Pacific Islanders, a combination of two or more races, or another race. The metropolis includes several institutions of higher learning: Langston University, Northeastern State University, the College of Osteopathic Medicine of Oklahoma State University, Oral Roberts University, and the University of Tulsa. There are also a number of community colleges, technical colleges, private colleges, seminaries, and branches of larger state institutions in Tulsa.
